The cycle of works entitled “Birth of Venus” (sometimes also referred to as “Femme – Paysage”) focusses on the female body, in particular the female torso. After a few purely nude studies (e.g. “Susanna in the Bath”), the female body is quickly depicted more and more connected to the body of the landscape. The body as landscape – the landscape as body.
He created drawings, paintings and, in particular, reliefs in which the nude is overwritten with signs of the landscape, such as the structure of vineyards or natural phenomena and materials (e.g. ‘Grasmädchen’, ‘Steinfrau’, ‘Red Island’).
The main works in this cycle were created in the 1970s.
Although the cycle remained present throughout his entire creative period, significantly fewer works were created in this context in the later creative periods.
